The Akeman Inn, named after the ancient Roman road upon which it resides (Akeman Street), was once a vital post for mail and stagecoaches on the main route from London to Cirencester, Cheltenham and Bath. For 200 years from the mid-17th century, this lovely coaching inn served weary travellers, staff and horses alike with refreshments and a bed for the night on long and arduous journeys.
