Bringing African food to Poole in a stylish yet traditional way using time honoured cooking methods, wrapped up with first class dining service, striking design and an accessible atmosphere, Zim offers the vibrant and diverse food and culture drawn from Southern Africa with heavy influences from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Malawi as well as the south eastern islands of Mauritius, the Seychelles, Madagascar and the Spice Island of Zanzibar. A traditional wood-charcoal Braai is the main focal point of the kitchen: it provides huge versatility to cook a wide range of grilled meats and fish. Cast iron Potjies allow for traditional stews and curries to be cooked and presented in a unique way. This is blended with traditional sides, vibrant and superfood salads for truly new and “good for you” food.

First visit to Zim Braai but not the last. We had a warm welcome and the waiter was very helpful in helping us understand the dishes on the menu which were new to us. The food was hearty and plentiful and full of wonderful flavours. We hadn’t known in advance that it was a bar as well as a restaurant but the overall ambience supports both. Great to try food from a part of the world that was new to us both.

We went on a Friday night for dinner with friends. Buzzing atmosphere. Interesting menu which was nicely explained to us by our host Declan who was superb. The food was delicious and in generous portions. Well done to all at Zim Braai for addng a fresh, interesting and healthy dining option on our doorstep. We will be back to explore other dishes soon!

We enjoyed a family night out at the Zim , very different to our usual choice. The great food was good value for its quality and presentation. The service was excellent , very friendly and helpful . The only thing we noticed was the noise level in the restaurant was so high made it difficult converse with each other , perhaps its an age thing? We will definitely go again but perhaps on a quieter day.

Food and service were excellent with alright value for money but really have to shout over the music to be heard by the person opposite was a bit challenging and meant everyone could hear your conversation

Tasty well cooked food. But no soft furnishing to dampen the noise, so noisy that couldn’t even hear someone seat next to you. Not good for romantic or group night out.
