The Clove Club is a bar and restaurant located in Shoreditch Town Hall in East London and is split up into 2 areas: the bar, with a great selection of beers, wines and bar food, and then the restaurant itself with open kitchen. The bar leads to the restaurant, a curved, minimally decorated room with chefs cooking and bantering in an open-view kitchen to one side, and large picture windows to the other. The restaurant serves an ambitious five course menu (dietary requirements accommodated, featuring interesting and often overlooked British ingredients and produce. The bar is more lively, with the option to pop in for a drink or stay for a full meal of dishes that are simpler than in the restaurant but of the same ethos.

I was lucky enough that my first experience of clove club was on a second date and let's just say that it helped seal the deal. I cannot express in words how incredible this restaurant is. The building, the ambience (even with no music the room comes to life) the professionalism of service, however friendly and warm too and last but not least the standard of food. We decided to go for the extended menu with wine tasting to coincide - they started with 4 or 5 tasting snacks which were out of this world. One dish that stands out is the buttermilk chicken with pine salt - this has brought us back to this fine establishment time and time again. Every dish is meticulously thought out from the presentation to the concoction of flavours. I don't want to go into details of the menu there is no need. This restaurant tops all and you have to make a reservation now. Karrie Knezovich
