The Pelham Arms

The Pelham Arms is a traditional British public house situated at the top of Lewes High Street, serving local and seasonal food with a relaxed friendly service in charming surroundings. Built circa 1640, this quintessential Sussex pub has original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, courtyard garden and is full of age-old charm. All the food is freshly prepared on the premises and The Pelham Arms is committed to using ingredients that have been ethically and responsibly produced, using only free range meats, local dairy and cheeses, free range eggs and poultry, organic grains, flours and pulses, locally caught fish and fair trade coffee and tea. The Pelham Arms take their real ale very seriously, and because of this your pint will always be top notch. The Pelham Arms are proud to be the only pub in Lewes serving fine ales from the Badger brewery. The wines have been carefully selected and include the local award winning sparkling wines from Ridgeview down the road in Ditchling and there is also an excellent range of organic juices and botanically brewed soft drinks.

Staff were all very cheerful, friendly and helpful. I ordered the Fish & Chips, I think for the £14 price tag the fish portion was small (about the size of the palm of my hand) and overcooked, so the fish was dry and the batter was way over done, conversely some of the fries were not quite cooked through (still had a slight taste of raw potato). I wouldn't recommend that dish. I would visit again if I were in the area.

I live ion Brighton and often walk from Brighton to this pub for lunch. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, knowledgable and attentive. The food is always made with fresh ingredients and delicious. I’ve been visiting for several years and it’s consistently a great pub.

Always top notch!

I'm always impressed by the service and the food is just divine! My friend is still raving about the lamb burger!
