This gorgeous Georgian building is a real find and Bill’s Cheltenham restaurant has a real wow factor. Across two floors and with a pretty outside terrace, it's a perfect location for meeting up with friends and family. Bill Collison, founder of Bill's, opened the first Bill's in Lewes, East Sussex, in 2001. Built on the same site where Bill had been running a successful greengrocery for several years, Bill's Café & Produce Store, as it was then known, was an instant success. The aim was to make a place that was colourful and exuberant, with dishes that were really tasty and also made you smile, that put every day and unusual seasonal ingredients together and gave everyone lots of ideas to take home with them. The team at Bill's baked, cooked and served deliciously different food, hung skeins of raffia from the ceiling, stacked towers of produce for people to buy and hired lively, enthusiastic staff to look after their customers. They wanted Bill's to be somewhere that really celebrated food and was welcoming to everyone, a place that felt like the next best thing to home. Breakfast at Bills is a great way to start your day; from a humble bacon or sausage sandwich to a bells-and-whistles super classic great British breakfast. Weekends are a different story, time to kick back and turn breakfast into brunch, complete with newspapers, freshly squeezed orange juice and plenty of tea or coffee.

We booked Bills for our works Christmas outing and were very disappointed. Avocado and prawn starter had no avocado. Turkey dinner was cold and there was no Cranberry sauce and we were told that there was none last year either - so they didn't learn from that. Meals were returned, reheated and then given back to the wrong people. They tried to pacify us by bribing us with drinks which they started to place on the table. When asked they drinks contained alcohol which when half of the table was driving and one didn't drink alcohol for other reasons is totally unacceptable. When they presented the bill they had the nerve to add on the gratuity (telling us this was optional but surely they would have had the sense not to add it in the first place). To add to the bribery they offered us a voucher to go back in a months time - really - after poor service and poor food who would be likely to return. The decent thing to do would be to reduce the bill but we had to ask for that!! If it wasn't for the fact that I was with a great group of people the night would have been a complete disaster.

We were made to feel very welcome, starter came out very quickly, main took a little longer and there was a little wait for the vegetables to come to the table. All in all very enjoyable

Last Tuesday we held our annual Christmas Office Party at Bill's - which tuned out to be one of the worst evenings we had ever had in Cheltenham. There was a lack of waiting staff - we waited over 30 mins for a drink, Some of the food was over cooked, they ran out of roast potatoes to go with the turkey. The Christmas pudding was solid + the ice cream had already melted. Even the final bill was wrong - in the end we had to work out our own. I have written to Bill's but they have not even had the curtesy to reply.
