Zizzi (Maidstone)

Zizzi is driven by a passion for Italian food and a simple motto: "well-chosen ingredients, simply put together to create exceptional Italian food". Each restaurant is a bit different in character, architecture and feel. Located just off the High Street Zizzi pulls inspiration from nearby Leeds castle to decorate the interior. It is decked out with its very own traditional pizza oven, sparkling olive vats and plenty of other interesting little details that draw influence from the local area.

Frazer the manager lacks basic people-skills. Certainly won't be coming back.

Frazer, the manager was incredibly rude and unwelcoming when we arrived for my daughter's birthday dinner on Friday night. The snowy/icy weather conditions made getting our children down the hill from The Fairy's Tale rather difficult, which meant we were approximately 10 minutes late. Sometimes It's not what you say, it's how you say it. The way in which Frazer lectured us in front of my daughter and her friend (who were clearly dressed as a princesses, eagerly waiting to be sat for the birthday meal) completely shocked us all. Not only was his approach abrupt, but he was even sarcastic and argumentative when we tried to explain why we were a little late. My poor daughter stood and watched the whole ordeal on her 4th birthday. By the time we actually sat down, we had even less time at our table. We all felt stressed. We all felt flustered, frantically trying to order and eat the first thing we saw on the menu. My daughter didn't get a happy birthday. We didn't get to sing to her. The atmosphere was so tense we tried to find somewhere else to go but unfortunately everywhere else was fully booked. I took my son to Pizza Express for his birthday this year and words cannot express how much fuss the staff made over him. It was magical and I hoped for the same experience for my daughter. She loves Zizi and was so excited for her birthday treat. It was truly a shame that it was written off the way it was. Safe to say we won't be coming back. It's certainly not a place I would like to spend my money. While we understood that being slightly late meant we would have less time on our table, it was ultimately Frazer's approach that ruined my daughter's special meal. A small mention for our lovely waitress Maisy, who was very empathetic and tried her best to rectify her mangers lack of people skills. Though our evening was ruined, we really appreciated her attempts to improve our experience at Zizi. She is a credit to them. Just a shame that the manager was not capable of the same kindness and understanding.
