The Tickled Trout Inn
Our favourite food to cook is fish, fish and more fish!
We have lots of fishy items on our Specials boards and our fresh fish is delivered by our local Fish Merchant every day. We use all local ingredients. Game in season from our local shoots, local Yorkshire meats, Eggs, Cheeses and if we can, we like to use local small artisan suppliers. We bake our own Bread fresh every day, churn our own butter and smoke all our own Salmon. We have our own Herb garden and our Head Chef forages in the local hedgerows. We like to keep it simple and let the food do the talking.
Our wood fired pizza oven
Imported from Italy. We light this every morning and serve Wood fired pizza at lunch time and early evening.
Pizza & Prosecco
The ultimate Corona busting evening for friends! Outside in our herb garden. Our Moroccan Bedouin tent with log burner, big rugs, candles, and cushions. Exclusive use of our outside tables and Fire pit. Socially distance around our big table and enjoy pizzas from our wood fired pizza oven.
The Tickled Trout was originally built in the 17th Century as the Chequers Inn on the main road to York. The Mainey family bought the dilapidated pub in 2019 and closed for a six Month refurbishment. Re opening the open fires, the stone flag floors and the old oak beams. We have created five boutique bedrooms for guests. Surrounded by Countryside, there are lots of country walks to enjoy, Wetherby races are just next door and there is nothing like just sitting in front of our crackling fires with your spaniel a pint of local Ale.

The food was , as always very good, but there were definitely issues affecting the service. Long delay in taking our order & when we were eventually approached, we were asked what sweets we would like when we hadn’t yet had anything! Timings not very coordinated- eg over a hour from reservation time to getting our first course & veggies a long time after mains were delivered. Extra drinks order was forgotten. Wrong bill was presented. I could go on,,, Such a shame as we’ve previously had exceptionally good visits here. There seemed to be plenty of staff, but if there were behind the scenes issues, I wish they had been explained.

The food is always amazing, it didn't disappoint once again! The service was a little poor on this visit- slow and it seemed the staff didn't have clear areas/tables to service.

Able to have exclusive use of the big room for a family and friends birthday party, 17 guests. Good menu choices, including vegetarian. Staff, food, room layout, all spot on.

I really enjoy this restaurant - the food is great, good choice and beautifully cooked, balanced by service which is attentive while being relaxed and friendly. A great wine list and a fun vibe in the restaurant, nicely spaced out with interesting non matched old tables and chairs.
