We visited Acorn on Friday 2nd May 2025, a restaurant have all enjoyed in the past. We should have been a party of 5 but unfortunately one of our group had to drop out at the last minute (oh he so missed a wonderful night). Bruce and the team were welcoming as always and Bruce (Owner and Chef) took the time to explain how he was preparing our meal and recommended we should only have a light starter. I had pre-ordered rib of beef for 5. By my own admission I'm a pig and I really do enjoy my food but I decided to heed his advice, but that was only because Bruce brought the beef down to show the table before its final cooking in the oven. OMG! So I opted for the duck bhaji, which were very tasty but one of our party had the prawns, I usually like my prawns peeled as I can't be doing with de-heading them and taking the shells off. But I would have done so that night, I don't usually get prawn envy but these were the fattest, most succulent prawns I have ever seen. Unfortunately, Luke who had ordered them was offering up to share his starter. I don't know what my other two friends had for starter, I was eating my bhajis whilst trying to mind control Luke (it worked in Star Wars). After our starters and a few drinks the main event arrived and I know I have said it already but OMG. Bruce presented this platter just brimming with medium rare beef as requested, he had even removed all the fat and cut that up into smaller pieces knowing that with Javier who is Basque, my father in law who is from Lancashire and me will want to indulge. The beef was absolutely superb I only wish I had the vocabulary to properly describe the taste, the texture and the enjoyment of each mouthful. The beef was so good and the accompanying vegetables were cooked with the same amount of care and expertise. In fact I am going to say it as it is, in my opinion Bruce makes the best dauphinois potatoes in Surrey and probably even further afield. To say we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal is an understatement, 10 days after the event I still smile and wish I was there experiencing it all again. As a group we five meet up every three months for a meal and a good chin-wag without our partners and because I am retired (so's the father in law by the way) and supposedly with nothing to do it is left to me to organise our get togethers. For the last few years or so I have booked different restaurants and pubs throughout Surrey. Not any more, having spoken to Bruce who is happy to cook any meat in season, Acorn is our new base and it is slow cooked lamb shoulder next time.

Sunday lunch for vegans

Another absolutely out of this world Sunday lunch. Bruce is an expert at catering for fussy vegans - contacted me before to double check my retirements. Wonderful experience and meal. Highly recommended, meat eater husband loved his traditional roast too.

Good food, just needs a little more attention to detail

We went to Acorn Restaurant for the first time yesterday and while it was good, there were a few things that were a little disappointing. First was that we asked for our tomahawk steak medium rare and it came out medium to well done. It was still nice, but absolutely no pink inside! Secondly, we asked for a portion of fries to go with the tomahawk steak (it comes with dauphinoise potatoes, but I can't have dairy, so we wanted fries as well) and they just didn't arrive. We weren't charged for them, but was a shame that they didn't turn up. Service was good and the food we did have was lovely. Just needs a bit more attention to detail.

What a beautiful gem of a restaurant in every way - the ambiance, the staff, the food - They know well and understand the full true meaning of hospitality - serving and cooking with great finesse. The Chef knows his stuff, great flavors, attention to detail, delicious food. I highly recommend this fantastic oasis - No need to go all the way to London, these wonderful talents are bringing it right here to the country - Well done one and all !!
