Bill Collison, founder of Bill's, opened the first Bill's in Lewes, East Sussex, in 2001. Built on the same site where Bill had been running a successful greengrocery for several years, Bill's Café & Produce Store, as it was then known, was an instant success. The aim was to make a place that was colourful and exuberant, with dishes that were really tasty and also made you smile, that put every day and unusual seasonal ingredients together and gave everyone lots of ideas to take home with them. The team at Bill's baked, cooked and served deliciously different food, hung skeins of raffia from the ceiling, stacked towers of produce for people to buy and hired lively, enthusiastic staff to look after their customers. They wanted Bill's to be somewhere that really celebrated food and was welcoming to everyone, a place that felt like the next best thing to home. Breakfast at Bills is a great way to start your day; from a humble bacon or sausage sandwich to a bells-and-whistles super classic great British breakfast. Weekends are a different story, time to kick back and turn breakfast into brunch, complete with newspapers, freshly squeezed orange juice and plenty of tea or coffee. Part of The Angel Hotel, an old coaching inn in the centre of town, Bill's Guildford is a very pretty restaurant. With two entrances, one outside and one inside the hotel, the restaurant has two floors. The lower floor is stunning at night time, with stone floors, archways and vaulted ceilings. It's a real step back in time, complete with twinkling candles and chandeliers. Open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, this is the perfect place to take a break from shopping, find a quiet corner to work on your laptop, or gather friends and family for celebrations. The restaurant also has a private dining room for 40 people or so.

We had a great lunch with very friendly helpful staff and fantastic service. I especially like the fact that the staff are in no way pushy for you to leave once your food is finished, even if the restaurant is very busy. This makes you feel like a worthwhile customer and not just another person through the door. We will definitely be back for another meal at Bills soon!

I chose two items from the lunchtime menu - Chicken Asian salad to start which was a generous portion and delicious, followed by a vegetarian main course of aubergines, chick pea dahl and lentils. It was filling, super tasty and very enjoyable.

Received an email offering a free bottle of Prosseco, as a birthday gift, if we bought 2 Main meals. So as a pre-show meal (G-Live) we took advantage. The food was delicious and the staff really polite, friendly and very good at their job. Thank you to all for a very pleasant meal and thank you Bill's for a very enjoyable bottle of birthday bubbly.

We have been coming here regularly for many years now, and I can't see this changing as the standard of the experience remains consistently high in all respects.
