Bill's Hammersmith, just across from the tube station, is our bit of bling. From the outside that is. Once inside, the restaurant settles into a true Bill's vibe - urban, with a good dose of shabby chic thrown in. Starting with a blank canvas, we customised the building and Bill put his obsession with trawling salvage yards and antique markets to good use, discovering some real gems, including beautiful chandeliers and vintage mirrors, which give the place a real sense of occasion. There is plenty of seating across two floors, as well as a sunny outdoor area. The restaurant is great any time of day, from breakfast and lunch to afternoon tea and dinner, whether you want to work quietly in a corner on your laptop or gather friends and family for a celebration. Bill Collison, founder of Bill's, opened the first Bill's in Lewes, East Sussex, in 2001. Built on the same site where Bill had been running a successful greengrocery for several years, Bill's Café & Produce Store, as it was then known, was an instant success. The aim was to make a place that was colourful and exuberant, with dishes that were really tasty and also made you smile, that put every day and unusual seasonal ingredients together and gave everyone lots of ideas to take home with them. The team at Bill's baked, cooked and served deliciously different food, hung skeins of raffia from the ceiling, stacked towers of produce for people to buy and hired lively, enthusiastic staff to look after their customers. They wanted Bill's to be somewhere that really celebrated food and was welcoming to everyone, a place that felt like the next best thing to home. Breakfast at Bills is a great way to start your day; from a humble bacon or sausage sandwich to a bells-and-whistles super classic great British breakfast. Weekends are a different story, time to kick back and turn breakfast into brunch, complete with newspapers, freshly squeezed orange juice and plenty of tea or coffee.

Booked up a table before show at Apollo, arrived early and staff were more than happy still to seat us. Maitre'd very friendly and chatty as was the chap serving us at the table. I had steak which was a little plain in taste but not the end of the world the Mrs had a Thai green curry which was lush. More importantly we had drink suggestions such as the Bee's Knees which was erm, well the dogs danglies! Staff can always make the difference to a good meal, not always about the food.
