A charming blend of Old and New, the pub traces its history back to the 18th Century and retains the ramshackle charm of the original cottages that make up the building. I know it’s August and weather not great but we were completely underwhelmed by the staff attitude when arriving at 1315 hoping (and expecting) at least a pint and ploughman’s to be met by “I’m sorry but unless you have a reservation we are only serving drinks in the garden “, this despite there being many empty tables and no sign of people eating! In the meantime my wife was completely ignored by a (waiter?) who wandered by twice without any sort of greeting or acknowledgement. Despite friends’ recommendation we certainly will not bother again. Luckily Springs was open and we were able to buy some delicious smoked salmon to eat at our holiday home.

Visited today, atmosphere brilliant, food fantastic, warmly welcomed, all was ok up until we asked for the bill which took 20 minutes to come them was just placed on the table, I took the bill to the garden bar only to be rudely told “you are not allowed up here go back to your table??so I said I want to pay my bill I have to be back to work this afternoon so the bar man followed us back to the table, no thankyou , no “did you enjoy your meal, very rude member of staff. There are thousands of country style pubs/restaurants to visit so why would I go back here?? Courteous staff cost nothing

Friends treated me to a Birthday Dinner and we all agreed that the food was absolutely delicious, so much so, a few days later I returned with some other friends. Shame I live so far otherwise I would be a regular :-)

Every time I visit the S&D in Fulking I have never been disappointed. The menu is always delightful with the current season and so delicious. Great wine and choice of Sussex ale. The service was a little slower this time but nearly every table was taken due to a meal offer that we did not know about. Appreciated for this time of year! This visit was a belated family birthday dinner and everyone left very happy and satisfied. We look forward to the next time!
