The Sloop Inn
The Sloop Inn was built in 1833 and was extended in 1860, the first half being Georgian and the second half being Victorian style. A Sloop is a type of boat and they used Sloops to carry bricks from Lewes to Balcombe down the canal, which, though not in use any more, you can still find a few steps from our front door. The bricks were imported from Holland, loaded onto Sloops at Newhaven, sailed to somewhere around Barcombe and fromread more
