OUR STORY
Stood on the patio overlooking Chew Valley Lake, with the winter sun starting to set, Steve & Diane Franks realised this was the place.
Having recently returned to live in Somerset after spending some time away they had been looking for somewhere to create a vibrant but comfortable café business – It just had to be here!
After being successful in its early years, the restaurant at Woodford Lodge was closed in September 2015. The building was still being used to facilitate the needs of the local fishermen, but the food operation needed a rethink. It needed fresh ideas, a different concept but above all, it needed some love.
Steve & Diane teamed up with local boys, Phil David & Jon Evans to create the café concept that today is known as “The Woodford”. Steve & Diane have used their extensive hospitality knowledge to produce what you see today – a modern and relaxing environment with a quality menu to match.
As Head Chef, Steve prides himself on producing fresh, quality food with an emphasis on using local suppliers and ingredients and with daily specials, a mouth-watering selection of homemade cakes & desserts and a wine list with something for everyone, it really is the place to visit.
Whether you are coming for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch or even afternoon tea, you will find a warm welcome every time.
CHEW VALLEY LAKE
For visitors and users of the lake, Chew is so much more than just a drinking water supply. Chew Valley offers various leisure and recreational facilities, from fishing and sailing to eating out, nature walks and bird watching.

On my first visit I was impressed by standards of friendly service (Beth was a delight) and nicely presented lunch. We were able to take our coffees outside as the sun came out which made it so much more special as despite the great views of the lake, the internal decor is a bit tired and lacking in cohesion. Treat yourselves and your many customers to a makeover and you’d be the perfect venue. So much potential so worth exploiting your beautiful location.

Came here for lunch on a very wet day, which was a shame because the view is wonderful! However, we received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table, with a view of the lake. The food we had was delicious as were the desserts. It cheered us up on an otherwise dismal day!

Our first visit to the Lodge. A warm and friendly welcome to an attractive location. Excellent and sensibly priced menu choice of mainly locally sourced food which was delicious and served very efficiently by friendly staff who appeared to enjoy their work. Will certainly visit again and have no doubt in recommending to others.
