The Green Man

The Green Man is a 17th century country pub which stands in the centre of Hurst, a pretty village close to Twyford and the A4. It is renowned for it's excellent value fresh food; both traditional pub fayre and daily blackboard specials. The pub has three separate bar areas, a heated patio area and a very attractive garden with play equipment for children during the summer. The name "The Green Man" is thought to be one of the oldest symbols of English folklore. In his book on "The secret meanings of pub names" (2009) Albert Jack suggests the Green Man was a pagan symbol of spring and fertility, adopted by Christian imagery, and still seen today in religious architecture throughout Europe.
