Blue Anchor (Fraddon)

The Blue Anchor is an inn steeped in over 200 years of history and is famously known for the visit of Lord Nelson's messenger Lapontiere of Ilfracombe on 4th November 1805. The reason for the visit was for a change of horses for 2 pounds and 17 shillings before he continued on his journey to London to bring news of Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. A bronze plaque was erected on the wall of the inn to commemorate the anniversary in 2005. Today, the Blue Anchor offers quality pub food and St. Austell ales along with great Sunday lunches.

A Beautiful Anniversary Dinner!

Prime was one of the best places I've been to! The steaks were absolutely fabulous and the staff were so friendly. As part of mine and my boyfriend's one year anniversary, we also received a complimentary dessert which was such a beautiful additional touch to our celebration! Thank you Prime for making our evening so special :)

Visited on a weekend away. Wow, absolutely amazing experience. Staff very attentive, food amazing, the ambience….spot on!

Honest review . From the moment you step in place looks great . Wasn’t meet by anyone just stood there . Eventually someone came and asked had we booked , yes by online . To be told our table may not be ready . We was on time by the way , then to be told yes table free while walking through plenty of free tables ? Now to choose what meat ,we had already knew what we wanted fillet at £42 pound it only comes with tomatoes( don’t like ) not even a salad , the waitress asked if we wanted sides I choose think cut chips . And husband the same . Only one portion came out well over cooked ( looked like they been recooked ) asked where my husband was and it took ages he had eating his steak by then . I left most of my recooked chips and shared his . Our total was £129 We left hungry , the fillet did taste ok . I have had much better shame as it was my birthday and I choose there . No I wouldn’t go again and most probably not recommend .

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the steaks were delicious and we enjoyed using the hot stone to cook them to our desire. There were plenty of chips , in fact we could’ve shared a portion between 2 people.The sides were delicious too. We were well looked after by staff and they surprised us with a birthday dessert for my son. It is quite pricey ( but this was a special occasion ) although they do a set menu for a cheaper price that I think we would come back and try.
