The Rum & Crab Shack

The Rum & Crab Shack is the sort of bar you dream about, informal and friendly. A selection of 50 rums and the freshest seafood dishes - including Cornwall's only soft-shell crab burger and a very more-ish Gumbo - are served up in this harbour-fronted fisherman's loft The Rum & Crab Shack was established in St Ives in 2013 by a team of four. Together late one night, they were up drinking the don of all rums: Diplomatica Reserva from Venezuela. As more of this fabulous rum was imbibed, the idea was formed to create a bar that would celebrate two of their favourite things in life: rum and crab. There is now an extensive collection of over fifty rums from around the world sitting on the bar's shelves, hailing from the Caribbean to Australia. Eating out at the shack is an informal affair. The cooking draws influences from New Orleans and Creole cooking which includes a cracking Jamabalaya and Gumbo, or you may want to pick a live lobster or crab from the tank - the best quality seafood, fresh and local when possible. The reclaimed-wooden interior makes you feel like you're on a boat, especially at high tide when all you can see out of the window is blue sea. The Rum & Crab Shack is child-friendly, dog-friendly, rum friendly... Alongside the Rums there is also a range of guest cask Ales, bottled Cornish and imported beers and a thoughtfully planned wine list of twenty wines – sourced from Cornwall to Australia.
