We stumbled on this fantastic place while visiting Cheltenham. Superb food and wonderfully attentive service. It is not a typical Indian restaurant in that the menu is bespoke and this is reflected in a higher price than one might normally pay. No chicken tikka masala on the menu! However, the choice of vegetarian, fish and meat is good and every dish we had was mouth-watering. I had the best lamb curry I have ever had. We appreciated the unique Gin and Tonics and the little extra dishes provided between courses including a sorbet to cleanse our palates. The East India Cafe (which it is definitely not!) is tucked away in the lower ground floor of a regency house on the Promenade. Reasonably spacious and tasteful decor. Very interesting photos and maps on the wall, It used to be a well-known secondhand book shop frequented by my husband as a teenager. Ideal for a celebration especially if you love South Asian cuisine. Thank you to the Chefs and the staff for a memorable meal. We will be back!

We came on a Saturday for the 2 course a la carte menu and had a great experience. Staff are friendly and attentive, without it feeling pretentious. They did not try to push the tasting menu, and we really enjoyed the food on the a la carte menu. There were thoughtful additions for the table. Drinks were reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!
