the Akeman

Built on the ancient Roman road of Akeman Street in 1901, the building was designed by acclaimed local architect William Huckvale – and the pub has been restored with great care, including the fireplace in the bar and the Victorian façade. The Akeman is a stylish pub. But there's plenty of substance behind the handsomely restored exterior. The busy bar and restaurant have been at the heart of the Tring community since first opening in 2007. And the open fire, open kitchen and open arms are ready to welcome guests throughout the day. Soak up the friendly vibe over a drink or two, followed by some fresh, imaginatively prepared food - which is all about high quality from the considerately sourced produce cooked in the kitchen right down to how each dish is meticulously and carefully presented. At the heart of the kitchen, a specialist Josper grill cooks steak, fish and other dishes to charcoal-fired perfection; while the daily specials mean there is always something new to discover. The Akeman's Team cares about the wider world they live in, and doing what is right for the planet – from their steadfast commitment to buying only British meat from friendly farmers, free-range eggs and sustainably sourced fish right through to printing the menus on FSC-approved paper.
