At the request of Napoleon III, the year 1855 saw the classification of the most prestigious Châteaux in the Bordeaux wine region. The classification lives on today as one of the world's most famous, marking out 1855 as seminal in the history of wine.
1855 is located on New Road, Oxford in a beautiful old building that seamlessly interweaves modern open architecture with its 200 year old history. Both the food and drink menus have been carefully chosen to enhance one another and inspire diners to try something new.
1855 have an eclectic and varied wine list showcasing exceptional wines which have been carefully matched to the fantastic seasonal food menu. Wine and food should complement and enhance each other, and the 1855 menu achieves just that. The menu is updated seasonally with outstanding produce that is as simple as it is tasty. Ingredients have been locally sourced wherever possible from small farms and producers.
