A disappointing pre festival meal

I booked the table for 6 people in very good time knowing that the Wednesday leading up to the Cropredy festival would be busy. It is a pity the management of the pub were not so prepared. Our booking was for 6.30 and although we got our table promptly and were able to place our orders for food and drinks straightaway, our food was not served until 8.15. In between we were notified of one dish and wine we ordered having run out. Some of the party got their drinks with just a little wait whilst others had to keep reminding the waiter that we hadn't even been served with a drink after half an hour. It was just a constant case of having to keep asking when our orders would be ready. The young man who served us was doing his best but was completely overwhelmed. There just were not enough staff on duty to manage all the orders properly. A good thing we checked the bill at the end - we were charged for the bottle of wine which the pub had run out of.

I am not sure which booking generated this feedback request but I was involved in 2 so I will review them both. Together with a group of friends I had booked a table for 12 for the Wednesday lunchtime preceding the Cropredy music festival we were all attending. In previous years my partner and I and a friend had enjoyed excellent pre-festival meals so I was looking forward very much to the wider party enjoying the same thing this year. More of this later. Having arrived a day earlier as our camping field allows us to camp from Tuesday some of us (about 6 of us) booked a slot at 8:30 PM for an additional meal. This did not go well. Firstly the food took 2 hours to arrive and when it did it was dry and appeared to have been standing for ages. Another table had been waiting just as long as us and earlier in the evening I had witnessed another party leaving in frustration as they had not been served their main course. The bar staff had been friendly and helpful all evening and had tried to find out what was going on. Eventually the manageress apologised, made a partial refund and bought us a round of drinks. Having related this experience to the wider party of all 12 of us, a number declined to come for the Wednesday lunch and those of who did return were not disappointed as our meals were served reasonably promptly and tasted good. One exception, my partner ordered a "mushroom burger and chips". She was anticipating a mushroom based patty but ended up with quite literally a solitary mushroom in a bun - the chips were fine but for £18 it was a pretty disappointing meal. The beer is good and the bar staff were friendly and helpful but the eating experiences have left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth (literally and metaphorically) and I'm not sure any of us will eat there again.

Food was very good, but the 2 hr wait was unacceptable. If we had an alternative to go to, we would have left

Despite the valiant efforts of the front of house staff, we were left very disappointed in waiting 90mins to receive our starter and eventually our clearly rushed main course. It was clear that you had taken far too many bookings for the kitchen to have a chance of delivering in a realistic time scale. Surely booking should be staggered to prevent this. Hopefully you will learn from this next time you have a predictably busy night. Again the bar staff did their best to explain and gave us complimentary drinks, but still spoilt the beginning of our Cropredy festival

We love our annual pilgrimage to The Braesnose ahead of the Cropredy Festival. Our Tuesday night reservation is a highlight of our calendar year and actually do much could have gone wrong this time. The pub was booked solid for dinner reservations and the waiting times were (understandably) longer than usual. However, the staff and kitchen team worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone had drinks (excellent Timothy Taylor’s and Peroni plus a selection of wines and an excellent food menu) and we felt very looked after and welcome. There was a lot of apologising for wait times and this was done sincerely, with compensatory gestures offered. Well done to the team for being so polite and professional when you were up against it. We were massively impressed and grateful. Same time next year!
