Loved our lunch downstairs by candlelight. Found this unique restaurant by accident and so happier did.

Having read so many positive reviews, we were eager to trial Maggie Jones on the occasion of a birthday celebration. We were disappointed: the duck pate was tasteless, the beef was overcooked, the pork belly was very fatty, the roast potatoes tepid and without flavour and the cabbage took us back to our school days. One member of the party enjoyed the chicken. We lost enthusiasm to risk the dessert. Our local Harvester provides better meals at a far more competitive price.

To start the service was slow and poor despite the fact that we were early and the restaurant was not busy. Secondly, my wife ordered the sea bream and one of the fillets was on the cusp of going over and not eaten. My belly of pork was served with a nice mash but with an apple sauce which had more cinnamon than apple which would have masked the flavour of the pork entirely. Continuing with the cinnamon theme, my wife’s apple crumble pudding was laced with an overdose of cinnamon and could not be finished. I would have liked to have complained to a manager at the time but we were in a hurry to leave (due to the slow service) to get to the theatre. I regret to say that I doubt very much that we will be returning.

Food was fantastic, very good value. Excellent service. Cannot fault it and would definitely go back there when we are next in London

As good as ever.

Came for a late lunch with my family. It has been many years since I last visited. It was still as good as I remember. Great hearty food, lovely service.
