Sarastro

Enter a world of drama, passion and excitement where exuberant colour, glittering display and joyous music meet exotic cuisine to create a truly unforgettable dining experience. On first approaching Sarastro, the eye is enchanted by the voluptuous floral displays which adorn the exterior of this Grade II listed Victorian building. Closer to, the intriguing 'old curiosity shop' interior can be glimpsed through the semicircular paned glass windows; drawing visitors into the heart of the restaurant to exclaim with joy at the unexpected vision that unfolds before them. As imaginative and remarkable as a scene from The Arabian Nights, the interior of Sarastro is ablaze with swirling colour and visual excitement. The bustling main floor is surrounded on three sides by ten distinctive opera boxes based on English, Gothic, Rococo, Ottoman and Byzantine styles, whilst the exclusive and prominent 'Royal Box' commands the centre position at the far end. As the first restaurant in London to feature balconies, and with banisters taken from the Royal Opera House, Sarastro offers a diverse range of seating accommodation; much of which is partially enclosed to offer partial privacy for diners of a more discreet nature. Please note however that the erotic artwork which is such a memorable feature of our rest rooms is artistic yet could hardly be called discreet! At Sarastro the emphasis is more about having fun than the stuffy gourmet pretentiousness of 'fine dining'. The menu is Turkish oriented and the food is broadly Mediterranean in style. A two-course meal with wine can cost as little as £20, with £25-30 being the average. Menus are regularly posted on the website along with details of special events and themed evenings. Undoubtedly the place to see and be seen in Drury Lane, Sarastro offers a unique and opulent carnival of the senses that gladdens the heart, delights the eye and captivates the soul. So why not visit Sarastro soon and experience its magic for yourself? Remember, the only thing you can expect is the unexpected!

As always, it was an excellently presented and served lunch and particularly poignant given that the Mulberry Tree closes this week. Our thanks to Karen and her team for making our visits very enjoyable over some years now and we wish them all well with their new ventures in the future.

I have been to this restaurant many times in the past and it never disappoints. On this occasion four of us went for Sunday lunch and experienced the anticipated high quality of food and service. Staff were polite and attentive and the portions of food were plentiful. Excellent value for money in a very nice place. I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending this restaurant for any occasion.

Went here for the first time using a group on voucher and it was one of the best meals I have had. I had bread n mushroom soup, really tasty. Then had Risotto balls which were heavenly. Main course was venison burger n Cajun chips, well just perfect followed by cheese n biscuits. I was so full I had to take some home. All the food was hot n tasty. The staff were very attentive and polite and the settings were was lovely. Very enjoyable evening.
