Appalling customer service

I approached the bar to discuss what we were having for food, the gentleman said that food was on until half past 8. I purchased a round of drinks in front of staff and looked at the menu and discussed what we were going to eat. 10 minutes later attempted to order food, before half past 8. I was told the kitchen is shut and that they could not refund my drinks. I spoke to the manager who was exceptionally rude. Appalling customer service.
