The Earl of March

The Earl of March is situated in a stunning location in the South Downs. With Goodwood, Chichester Festival Theatre, the sea and Chichester Marina being on our doorstep, we have a discerning clientele. However we are still very much part of the local community, and we welcome all who chance upon us. Adam Hadwen, former chef, has taken over the ownership. His passion for local produce and foraging is evident in his diverse menu. He is keen to challenge your palate , as well as elevating the classics. Drinkers, diners, children, dogs, groups- everyone is welcome at The Earl of March!

Called in for lunch with two friends and we chose from the Light Bites menu. The ham, egg and chips were exceptional which was also served with delicious pickled vegetables. We then chose from a rather lovely ice cream menu (all made on the premises) and they too were outstanding. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Earl of March.

First went to the Earl Of March last year I looked forward for a year to coming back! When expectations are that high, they are often not met, but truly this meal exceeded my expectations once again! Everything was perfect, Linda, who makes the bread, butters and ice creams was personal and delightful and her bread was amazing! The chef owner Adam’s starters were the thing of dreams, I even enjoyed the octopus (which I usually don’t like!) The steak was perfect, chips were from heaven, and the Runcton greens from the Runcton farm shop were delicious! We ordered two desserts that were highly inventive flavors. I haven’t quite had before— all things I look forward to having again! Well done, Earl Of March, well done!!! We will be back!!!! Pub/restaurant Owner Chef.

A lovely experience as usual

Really enjoy the food and friendly atmosphere from The Earl of March - they always go the extra mile to ensure a great experience, even during busy periods, when staff are understandably stretched. I'd vote the food is the best in the area - a real treat!

We precooked a table for 8pm as we knew it was a busy weekend, with Goodwood Festival of Speed taking place. Arrival and our table was good and we were served drinks quickly. It then became apparent how busy it was in the garden, and you could just arrive and order food from the main menu in the garden. We had to ask for our food order to be taken. The Bread & Butter we had as a starter arrived quickly and was tasty. This was pre prepared so an easy one to serve. There was a constant stream of food heading out the garden and others around us seemed to be served in reasonable time. Staff were very friendly and did apologise for the delay saying how busy they were. Our main course took over 1 hour 20 minutes to arrive. I had to ask twice when it was going to arrive. When it arrived the food was good, however the side order of Chips and sauce for my steak had been forgotten. So I had to ask twice for these. The sauce never arrived as apparently the menu had changed so the sauce did not apply! Having booked our table we were disappointed, walk in customers seemed to be given priority. They should be the ones with a longer wait. Our waiter did apologise at the end when we paid our bill and gave us a complimentary glass of wine. We also missed the singer outside as our food took so long to arrive. Sadly a disappointing dining experience.
